Donald Trump has desperately publicly asked Vice President Mike Pence to block certification of Joe Biden’s victory and overthrow the presidential election

“States want to correct their votes, which they now know to be based on irregularities and fraud, and corrupt processes have never received legislative approval,” the president tweeted on Wednesday

“All Mike Pence has to do is send her back to the States and we win Do it Mike, this is a time for extreme courage!” ”

The President’s appeal comes as Mr Pence, in his constitutional role, is to oversee a joint congressional session where the House and Senate will vote to officially confirm Mr Biden’s victory

Mr. Pence has been increasingly pressured by Mr. Trump and other Republicans to object to Mr. Biden’s confirmation

The president similarly advocated his vice president turning Tuesday’s result upside down for the past four years, saying he had the power to “reject fraudulently elected voters”

The New York Times reported that later that day, Mr Pence told Mr Trump that he had neither the authority nor the authority to block Mr Biden’s victory as the president requested

Mr Trump has since called the report “false news” and has insisted that he and Mr Pence “totally agree that the Vice President has authority to act””

However, the Republican has a constitutional obligation to confirm Mr Biden as the 2020 contest winner once both Houses recall their vote count on Wednesday, with his powers being largely ceremonial

It is not clear whether, despite the President’s statement, Mr Pence agrees with the views expressed by Mr Trump

At least 13 senators and potentially more than 100 House members plan to question Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in at least six states during the ceremony This is usually a formality in the electoral process and makes unsubstantiated claims of electoral fraud

More than a dozen GOP senators have stated that they do not support the challenges and plan to vote against them, and the president and his campaign did not provide material evidence of fraud or corruption in the 2020 elections

Over the weekend, Mr. Pence’s office announced that the Vice President had “welcomed” the Congressional challenge presented by Texas Senator Ted Cruz, despite having virtually no chance of success

“Vice President Pence shares concerns of millions of Americans about election fraud and irregularities in recent elections,” said Marc Short, Pence’s chief of staff, in a statement

“The Vice President applauds the efforts by members of the House and Senate to use the authority provided by law to launch a meeting on March 6 January Objections and Show Evidence to Congress and the American People “

Mike Pence, in his constitutional role, will chair a joint congressional session where the House and Senate will vote to officially confirm Mr. Biden’s victory
