INDIAN LAND, pC. – On Wednesday in South Carolina, select Publix grocery stores will begin delivering the COVID-19 vaccine

Each of Publix’s South Carolina locations has 100 vaccines that will be dispensed starting Wednesday First, however, you had to make an appointment and some said this was not an easy task

The appointments were expected to go quickly, and reporter Gina Esposito said that shortly before 8:30 am Tuesday, all appointments in York and Lancaster counties were already busy

To book your place, you had to find your county, fill out a questionnaire and hit send. If there was availability, you would receive a confirmation email within a few minutes

One woman told Channel 9’s Anthony Kustura she woke up early Tuesday waiting for the online portal to go online so she could schedule her mother’s appointment. She said in seconds the website was flashing of available Appointments too fully booked

“I panicked”There’s just no way that many people signed up,” said Sarah McLester,

With Publix already offering COVID-19 vaccinations at its Florida and Georgia pharmacies, McLester expected it to run smoothly. But like most vaccinations, it was gone within hours

“I thought, ‘I can’t believe it’s 30 seconds later and it’s already full,” McLester said. “So I just said,’ OK, I’ll keep doing this” I kept going back and finally walking in the queue ”

After all her attempts, her patience and persistence secured her mother an appointment on Wednesday morning. She said, despite the wait and frustration, she was relieved that her mother was next in line

“We really wanted to get them in there asap, so this was a really big day for that,” said McLester

These vaccines are intended only for those under Phase 1B of South Carolina These are people aged 70 and over, healthcare workers, and long-term care workers

In order to receive your vaccine, you will need to show identification

If you have health insurance, you will be asked to bring your insurance card with you. This is only possible by appointment, while stocks last and everything is free

When it’s time for your second dose, just like the first confirmation email, you will receive another email when it’s due for the second dose

A Publix spokesperson told Channel 9 that they are talking to North Carolina officials about introducing the vaccination service So far, however, there is no timetable for when this could happen
