Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving didn’t play the visiting Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night for personal reasons

Coach Steve Nash spoke to reporters an hour and 45 minutes before the tip, saying he “just found out” that Irving wasn’t going to play

“I sent him a message in the last half hour and haven’t heard anything about it,” said Nash. “But obviously thinking of him and hoping everything is okay. It’s a private matter”

Striker Kevin Durant, who is in quarantine after being exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, was also eliminated by the Sixers, Nash said if Durant continues to test negative, he could go to Sunday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder are available

The nets were also without guard Tyler Johnson, who was put on the NBA’s health and safety protocols. Nash said Johnson did not test positive for the coronavirus but did not play while undergoing contact tracing, Nash said it had nothing to do with Durant being out

Striker Nic Claxton (knee dinopathy), security guard Spencer Dinwiddie (partially torn right ACL) and striker Reggie Perry (left groin pain) have also been out in Brooklyn
