To promote inclusivity, the legendary Mr The Potato Head brand becomes gender neutral and lets the “Mr’Titles in favor of a’ more modern ‘look But the brand sparked confusion on social media when they made the announcement, and now fans are asking – are the characters Mr and Mrs. Potato Head no longer?
Hasbro announced on Thursday that it will be the “Mr.”Title from the brand name” to better reflect the entire line “It was said that in an upcoming playset, Mr and wife designations that enable children to start their own potato families with two mothers or two fathers, a “celebration of the many faces of families” “
“Potato Head has provided and continues to offer our preschoolers endless creative possibilities for nearly 70 years,” said Hasbro. “The possibilities of raising families are endless when all the pieces and pieces are mixed and mashed up”
But later in the day, Hasbro made it clear that the characters themselves will still wear the gendered titles – just less prominent than the brand itself

The toy was launched 70 years ago – when kids had to supply their own potato to play with. In recent years, a number of brands have tried to be more inclusive, including Barbie and American Girl Doll
GLAAD, an LGBTQ advocacy group, praised the change, calling it part of a “larger movement towards greater diversity and inclusion in toys and media for children” “
In a statement to The Associated Press, GLAAD Chief Communications Officer Rich Ferraro said, “Hasbro helps children see toys simply as toys, encouraging them to be their authentic selves outside of the pressures of traditional gender norms.” p>
