The Nation of Islam (NOI) and its leader, Minister Louis Farrakhan, have reported that the suspect was involved in a fatal incident in Washington, DC. on Friday identified himself as a supporter of the controversial group

Noah Green allegedly rammed his car into two police officers near the North Barricade in the Capitol One officer died as a result of the attack and Green was shot dead. A second officer was also injured

On his Facebook page, Green publicly identified with NOI and said he was a “follower of Farrakhan” “Although the social media site has since deleted his page, Newsweek and other news sites have taken pictures of it.” / p>

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has identified the Nation of Islam as a hate group, particularly highlighting Farrakhan’s frequent use of anti-Semitic rhetoric

SPLC describes NOI as “a bizarre theology of innate black superiority over whites” and “a prominent position in the ranks of organized hatred” “

NOI had not made a statement regarding Green or the Capitol incident at the time of writing on its website

In fact, the most recent document under the News & Statements tab of the site was dated Jan. December 2020 and dealt with some remarks from Farrakhan

There are several Twitter accounts associated with NOI, although none have been verified by the social media site One, @OfficialNOI, which refers to itself as the “[o] fficial twitter account of The Nation of Islam” , has 60000 followers

This report had not published anything about the attack on the Capitol at the time of writing Two related reports – @LouisFarrakhan and @MosqueMaryam – also had no comment on the fatal incident, the former describing itself as Farrakhan’s official Twitter page p>

Newsweek reached out to Maryam Mosque, which is the headquarters of NOI, and the organization itself, which is looking for a comment on this article

There are also several personal Twitter accounts of people who identify themselves as part of NOI and followers of Farrakhan One of them, Fontaine Muhammad, describes himself as “Student Minister of the Nation of Islam” and “proud member of the Twitter , Facebook and & Instagram Army by Min Farrakhan “

Muhammad’s recent contributions point to an upcoming speech by Farrakhan due to be given on Saturday at 10 a.m. Farrakhan will reach out to the Nubian Leadership Circle, a self-described “Alliance of African / Black National Organizations and Leaders”. The event will be confirmed by the group’s Facebook page. remains to be seen

Green stated his support for Farrakhan on Facebook, writing, “My faith is one of the few things that have carried me through these times and my faith is centered on believing in the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan as Jesus the Messiah, the last divine memory in our midst “

Farrakhan has long been a prominent and controversial figure in the US. He played an important role in the black nationalism movement and also organized the famous 1995 Million Man March in Washington, D.C.
