Eric Church and Jazmine Sullivan will sing our nation’s anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner”, on Sunday (February), 7) nights of Super Bowl LV

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Church stated that while he “avoided” singing the national anthem “forever” because it was “an incredibly difficult song”, he believes this is an important time for him is to sing it for a patriotic moment

“With what’s going on in America, it seems like an important time for a patriotic moment,” Church told the point of sale. “An important time for unity. The fact that I’m a Caucasian country singer and she’s an African American R&B singer – I think the country needs this ”

Church stated that he truly appreciates the unity this duet symbolizes as the country remains divided on a political level

“But that is exactly what spoke to me,” Church explained. “We are uniting, And there is a time in our country when we have to do that”

The country singer shared that due to the ongoing global health crisis, we have lost many of the things that really connect us

“We’ve lost the things that united us before: concerts, sporting events, trips to Vegas with the guys I can tell you from the concert standpoint, the longer we go without people putting their arms around the person next to them lay and have a moment of fellowship, the weaker and more dangerous it gets. And I think the reality is what happened in the Capitol ”

“I feel like we have given up common ground in this country,” Church continued. “When I’m at a concert, I don’t think about how many people are Republicans or Democrats. But that’s how you win elections – you must create the split in order to build a base
