It didn’t result in a win, but Derrick Rose juiced up the Knicks’ second unit on his debut Tuesday, playing alongside rookie guard Immanuel Quickley in the backyard

Coach Tom Thibodeau chose not to close with Rose, however, and the Knicks suffered a heartbreaking 98-96 defeat at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami

Rose’s debut in his second Knicks stint was a resounding success as he shot 14 points home in three minutes with three assists. Rose also registered a block and a theft after not even a shootaround training session with his new club He shot 5 of 9 – 2 of 3 from 3-point range

After 98-96, the Knicks gasped one last time, but RJ Barrett was unable to change his handling in the final seconds, despite appearing to have a step on the extraordinary defenseman Jimmy Butler

“I thought I looked really good – a layup goes to my strong hand,” Barrett said. “I just have to finish that’ ’

The Knicks still have to find the right chemistry after the rose trade with the flasks. They led after three-quarters with 82-76, but couldn’t stop the heat

It wasn’t Rose’s fault, although it got a little sloppy early in the fourth quarter, blocked with sales and a badly advised shot that prompted Thibodeau to use starting point guard Elfrid Payton to close, despite Quickley in the last minute entered

When asked why he didn’t close with Rose, Thibodeau said, “He just got here today so we’re still working our way through things I just felt we need people who know what we are I didn’t mean to put him in such a situation ”

For his part, Rose was delighted to be back with Thibodeau and said he was not entirely satisfied with his performance because of his mistakes in the early fourth quarter

“To tell you the truth, I’m a perfectionist,” Rose said. “I think about the sales I had in the fourth. It sucks, but we have room to grow and remind me it’s the first game I know I’m a winner That’s why losing this game stands out ”

Quickley’s minutes weren’t affected as expected, but his shot was only 1 out of 8 off the field before hitting a key floater 40 seconds from the end to bring the deficit down to one point

The weird man who turned out as expected was Austin Rivers, who didn’t play but managed to illegally go out on the pitch to chat with Butler before making important free throws in the final 10 seconds

Julius Randle, coincidence or not, never got into his all-star groove either, shooting 4 out of 18 for 12 points in his worst game of the season

Barrett (13 points), who was benched late in the previous game against Miami, didn’t have a particularly good game either, despite having the chance to be the last-second hero

“He brought great energy,” said Barrett. “He really made the right games for the team. He brought a lot of leadership and spoke to all of us. Game We really appreciate it. It’s great to have a man like that in ours Team to have ”

It was a tie at 94-94 when Randle shot an 18-foot open foot from the top that hit the back iron. Miami’s Tyler Herro, their NBA bubble playoff hero, dropped a 3-pointer with 1 : 04 left Randle drove to Quickley’s basket and missed an unbalanced jumper on the right by six seconds

The Knicks who lost both ends of the home to drop to 11-15 must turn chemistry upside down

Rose and Quickley came into play as a tandem with 3:27 in the first quarter. After eight points, the duo got to work very quickly and helped with a 25: 5 run

“I think you see it a lot when you have multiple point guards on the ground It gives you another ball handler, a secondary ball handler, and you can bring in Alec [Burks] too, “Thibodeau said.” Their versatility actually allows them to fit into both groups I think we will see some of that as we move forward ‘ ‘

Right off the bat, Rose found Quickley for a 3-pointer Quickley found Rose for a 3-pointer Rose made a steal, then drove the baseline and made a sensational pass to Burks for a corner 3-pointer Then Rose beat rookie Obi Toppin of a pick and roll for the slam

“I think the bank played really well,” Thibodeau said. “That’s important Nerlens gave us good minutes Obi, quick I thought the whole group played really well together It really got us going ”

Before the game, Thibodeau passed out from Rose and still called him an “elite” player He added, “He’s telling me this is as healthy as he’ ’
