Democratic representative Emanuel Cleaver caused anger by closing a congressional prayer with the words “Amen and a woman”

He said, ‘We ask it in the name of the monotheistic god Brahma and the “God” known by many names from many different faiths’

The Missouri pastor was asked to open the 117th prayer Congress on Sunday and decided to give a gender neutral address

After the video went online, many cleavers pointed out that Amen is Latin for “so be it” and has no gender relation

Many on Twitter pointed to the error in Cleaver’s prayer when responding to the ‘woke up’ address

Conservative blogger Matt Walsh wrote, ‘Dem’s open convention with a prayer ending, “Amen and a woman.”

‘Amen is a Latin word that means “really” or “so be it” “A woman” is a nonsense word that means nothing

Another Twitter user said: ‘Nothing to do with gender Typical wokeism, changing word definitions to encourage narrative & makes everything political’

Cleaver said of his prayer: “It was an honor to have the opening prayer for the 117 Congress to speak

May God bless each and every representative with the courage and wisdom to defend our democracy and the freedoms that are so close to our hearts’

The “awakened” prayer comes after a committee proposed changes to house rules to “honor all gender identities” and eliminate words with inherent genders such as “father” or “mother”

Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Speaker of the House, announced the proposal, saying the move would make the lower chamber the “most comprehensive in history” for transgender and non-binary people

The new house rules would remove gender references such as “man”, “woman”, “husband” or “wife” in the 45-page text that governs the house
