Alphabet’s Google suffered a global outage on Monday that took several services, including YouTube, Gmail, and Google Drive, offline

The service has since been restored, according to Google. The company’s Workspace Status Dashboard shows that all services are now operational again as usual

Several people on social media reported problems with the platforms on Monday morning Error messages were displayed in Gmail, YouTube and Google Drive without further explanation

According to Down Detector, a website that aggregates reports of online service outages, issues with the platforms began to appear around 6:30 a.m. ET

Google later confirmed the outage, saying it was the result of an internal problem rather than a cyber attack

“Today at 347 p.m. PT Google had an authentication system outage for approximately 45 minutes due to an internal storage quota issue,” a Google spokesman told CNBC

“Services that require users to log in experienced high error rates during this period. The problem with the authentication system was fixed at 04:32 am”

The spokesperson added: “All services are now being restored. We apologize to all concerned and will be doing a thorough review to ensure this problem does not arise in the future”
