The investigation into the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Sept. January will most likely lead to sedition charges against some of the suspects, the federal prosecutor who led the investigation said in a new interview

“I believe the facts support these allegations, and I think more facts will support this as we move forward,” Prosecutor Michael Sherwin said during an interview with 60 Minutes that aired on Sunday

Under US law, rioting is a crime and is defined as a conspiracy to overthrow the US government or “violently prevent, interfere, or delay the execution of any United States law.” In the past, riot fees are fees rarely

In the interview, Sherwin also said that investigators are still investigating whether President Donald Trump is criminally responsible for the uprising

“It is clear that Trump was the magnet that brought people to DC on the sixth,” said Sherwin. “Now the question is whether he was criminally guilty of everything that happened during the siege, during the injury is? ”
The investigation has led to more than 400 criminal cases to date, many of which include substantial federal criminal charges. More than 100 people have been accused of assaulting federal and local law enforcement officers

Sherwin said about 10% of the cases are “more complex conspiracy cases” where prosecutors have evidence that right-wing armed groups entered the Capitol with a plan, investigators are working to find out more details about those specific plans
