Contagion was a movie that many turned to in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, in fact, ITV aired it in March 2020 when the outbreak was worst and the country was first locked

The film has returned to public consciousness after Health Secretary Matt Hancock mentioned it when discussing the UK vaccine rollout plan

Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 film follows a group of everyday people and medical experts on their journey to fight an unknown virus

Among the stars were Kate Winslet, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow, who referred to Contagion when they encouraged people to wear masks last year

In an interview with LBC Radio, Hancock stressed that the film was not his “primary source of advice” on his quest to deliver millions of doses of the vaccine, adding that it enabled him to make priority order decisions. p>

He said: [The film shows] The moment of greatest stress around the vaccination program is in fact not before it is introduced – if indeed the scientists and the manufacturers are working together at a pace – it is afterwards, when there is a big one Row on the order of priority

“I insisted that we ordered enough for every adult to get their two doses, but we also asked for this clinical advice on prioritization very early on and made it public”

It doesn’t matter if you want to find out where Mr. Hancock has his inspiration, or is just in the mood to freak out again, check out Contagion here

The film is available to Netflix subscribers in the UK if they sign up for the service from £ 599 per month

Star Kate said last year that starring in Contagion helped her prepare for the coronavirus pandemic and led her to wear face masks months before the rest of the US

She told The Hollywood Reporter, “People thought I was crazy for walking around in a mask for weeks, going to the grocery store and wiping everything with isopropyl alcohol and gloves

“Then suddenly came the 13th March and people were like, “F ** k, where do I get one of these masks from?”
