The public inquiry into covert policing is set to mark Stephen Lawrence Day with a minute’s silence in memory of the murdered teenager

Undercover agents spied on the justice campaign for the 18-year-old, who was murdered by a gang of racists in Eltham, southeast London, in 1993

Incompetence, alleged corruption and racism among the police force resulted in two of his killers being convicted of nearly 20 years, while the remaining three were never brought to justice

The Undercover Policing Inquiry will observe a minute’s silence on Thursday, the anniversary of Stephen’s death

The black teenager’s parents, Doreen and Neville Lawrence, and his friend, Duwayne Brooks, who was with him the night he died, have all been reported to the undercover police and are believed to be the main participants in the public investigation

In addition to the memory of Stephen, a minute’s silence will be observed on Friday for anti-racism activist Blair Peach, who died after he died on Jan. He was hit over the head by a police officer during a protest in Southall, west London, on April 7, 1979

His partner, Celia Stubbs, who will prove the investigation over the next few weeks, was spied on by undercover agents as she campaigned for justice

The current series of hearings in the Mammoth Public Inquiry covers police activities between 1973 and 1982
