Police were called to B600 Alfreton Road near Selston at around 10:20 am GMT, where a man and woman were pronounced dead on the scene

Another woman was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and a man was hospitalized as a precaution

Officers said the road is expected to be closed for some time Police are asking for information

Insp Hayley Crawford of Nottinghamshire Police Department said: “This is an incredibly sad incident in which two people have lost their lives and one person is in critical condition

“We are working hard now to investigate the circumstances and I would like to reach out to anyone who has information, witnessed the incident, or has dashcam material to contact you as soon as possible”

Tom Archer of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Services said, “Our thoughts right now are with family, friends and the local community”

He added that firefighters participated in the collision and worked “extremely hard” with ambulance colleagues in very “challenging circumstances”

“This is a timely reminder that if you travel this season, please do it safely,” he said
