The story of Surrey-born racing driver Billy Monger’s remarkable Comic Relief triathlon will air on BBC One tonight

Last month Billy walked, rode and kayak 140 miles around England to raise funds for Red Nose Day, a campaign to end child poverty.The walk started in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and ended in Brands Hatch in Kent

You may remember the 21-year-old who was born in Charlwood from his 2019 documentary entitled Driven: The Billy Monger Story

An April 2017 motor sport incident in Donington Park, Leicestershire resulted in both of Billy’s legs being amputated One of his legs was amputated above the knee while the other was amputated below

The BBC documentary followed the then 18-year-old racing driver’s attempt to become the first double amputee to drive competitively in a single-seat racing car

He was honored with the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award in 2019 for excellence in difficult times

He got behind the wheel for the first time when he was three years old when his father bought him his first go-kart

After his accident, a JustGiving page was set up for Monger with more than 500000 pounds has been raised including donations from several F1 drivers including Lewis Hamilton

During his final challenge, Billy received support from celebrities such as Jose Mourinho, manager of Tottenham Hotspur football club, and TV presenter Zoe Ball

During the triathlon, Billy will be supported by other prominent supporters including Cheryl, Zoe Ball, Chris Ramsey, Dan Walker and Vick Hope
