The Met Office today issued amber weather warnings for snow in parts of London, east and south-east England, advising that the dangerous conditions caused by Storm Darcy could continue into next week

The capital is expected to see light snow stretches with lows of -2 ° C under the winter conditions

Met Officeamber’s warning suggests that this could lead to potential road and rail travel disruptions, as well as possible power outages

Daytime temperatures are expected to stay in the low single digits for most of the country, with some places staying below freezing and the bitter winds making it feel even colder

Yellow warnings for snow and ice that span the full length of Britain will continue until Wednesday noon. The predicted hot weather has dubbed Storm Darcy ‘the beast from the east 2’

“#Sunday morning will be #cold for everyone with heavy #snow in the southeast, there will be snow showers elsewhere and a bitter east wind,” tweeted The Met Office

It happens that 2 to 5 cm of snow can be seen in many parts of Scotland and North East England, with 10 to 15 cm possible in regions over 200 m

Snow has already fallen in Scotland and the River Eden has burst its banks in the town of Cupar in Fife, Scotland

According to the Met Office, heavy disruptive snow is expected in the south east of England, along with gusts of 40 to 50 mph that can cause drifting snow from today through Monday morning

On Saturday morning, light snow fell in London, but it had not yet settled

“In this area, there is a small chance that you will see two to four inches of snow, particularly over the Downs of Kent and North Downs

“It’s a small chance, but the threat is there, up to a foot of snow, possibly combined with extremely strong easterly winds. Even inland in this area the gust could be 45 miles per hour and higher than on the coasts

“This could cause lying snow and blizzards to drift off significantly for the snow that passes you for anyone trying to travel”

She added that 2018 snowfall and cold easterly winds won’t be as prevalent as the beast from the east

“The east winds come from Ukraine and the Black Sea – Eastern Europe – the air will be cold, but it won’t be as bitingly cold as 2018”

Public Health England (PHE) issued a cold weather alert for all of England from Saturday to Wednesday

Dr Owen Landeg of PHE said, “Cold weather is not only uncomfortable, it can have serious health effects

“In the elderly and people with heart and lung problems, this can increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and chest infections

“Therefore it is very important during this time to think about looking for frail or elderly neighbors or relatives, especially people who live alone or suffer from serious illnesses, especially before a possibly very cold snapshot”

Storm Darcy was named by the Dutch agency Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) prior to arriving in the UK this weekend

KNMI shared the news on Twitter, saying the “low pressure” system would push temperatures below freezing and create “dangerous” conditions

“The KNMI has given the low pressure area, which will deliver #Snow on Sunday, a name: #StormDarcy,” tweeted the agency
