Shane Richie has come a long way since leaving Albert Square after playing Alfie Moon on Eastenders for 17 years, the star is now one of the campmates on I’m A Celebrity’s 2020 series, Get Me Here Out! and he’s talked to the other famous faces about his time on the soap express co-UK has everything you need to know about why Richie left Eastenders as Alfie Moon

Alfie Moon first appeared on Eastenders in 2002 and remained part of the popular British soap

for three years

He made a comeback five years later in 2010 after his wife Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) returned, and fans were delighted to see him back on screen

Alfie and Kat were known to have a rocky relationship, and Alfie was a popular character during his time at the Queen Vic Pub

Both characters left the soap in 2015 before starring in their own spin-off series called Kat & Alfie: Redwater, which aired in 2017

Alfie later returned to Eastenders in 2018, starring in its final episode in January 2019, The star has said he didn’t think he got the role first and was very emotional when he found out he got the role

His character is one of the most recognizable on the series and he was inspired by the series writer, Tony Jordan

Alfie Moon is still alive in the soap, so there’s always the chance he might return in the future, and Richie hasn’t ruled out the prospect

Richie revealed that his character was “still on the run” but said he kept in touch with his co-star Wallace about the latest storylines

The star has said he’s too busy to get back into the cast next year, but he wouldn’t rule out a return in 2022

He enjoyed making various comebacks with the soap and said he loved playing Alfie Moon, but the star has so many other commitments to think about

The 56-year-old actor has starred in a number of other shows since leaving the soap, including Caravanning With Shane Richie and Star Boot Sale

His other credits over the years include Benidorm, Moving On, We Are Doomed! The Father’s Army’s Story, and he guest hosted on The One Show

Fans may also know that the star, who is also a singer, made three albums in his day, including Once Around the Sun in 2000 and A Country Soul in 2017

He’s also a huge fan of the theater and one of his most recent projects was as retired drag queen Hugo Battersby, also known as Loco Chanelle, in the musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

The father of five has also been engaged in his charity work as he is the patron of the Cherry Trees for Children and the Huntington’s Disease Association

It’s no wonder the actor hasn’t returned to Eastenders in a while, having had so much on his plate

Fans loved Richie at this year’s I’m A Celebrity because he was referred to as the group’s joker and brought a lot of laughter with him

He’s one of the most supportive campmates and continues to offer plenty of encouragement to his co-stars before their exams

He built a strong bond with Jordan North when the couple participated together in the first trial called the Viper Vault

The show hosts Ant and Dec have suggested that the actor has a “hammock of truth” as celebs seem to open up to him for their most private affairs
