It was a stop-start at the start of the game following an early injury to Newcastle defender Fabin Schar before the hosts had their first chance Jonjo Shelvey shot far with little propulsion

Leeds were dealt a blow when Diego Llorente was injured and had to be replaced by Pascal Struijk, while Isaac Hayden also knocked for the hosts within 10 minutes

After a good advantage from referee Anthony Taylor, Leeds had their first chance in the 12th In the minute, Stuart Dallas put a nice cross for Jack Harrison to score a volley, but he refused

Leeds took the lead five minutes later After a nice game, Rodrigo put the ball on Raphinha right in the penalty area and made an excellent way home into the lower corner

Newcastle then wanted to hit back from a corner from Jonjo Shelvey, and Jamal Lascelles walked far towards the magpies

The Whites dominated possession without creating a clear chance, while the hosts came closest when Shelvey fired a free kick from a long distance

Another injury stop came after Illan Meslier accidentally hit a knee in the face before Ryan Fraser threatened and clung to a low cross of Jacob Murphy He was found on the edge of the box and just shot too high

The Whites nearly doubled their lead after catching Newcastle counterattacking Rodrigo but was turned down by Karl Darlow before dropping the rebound on Raphinha, who hit the post from a narrow angle

Moments later, Rodrigo moved closer again, this time dragging a mighty attempt from 25 meters just in front of Darlow’s post

In the five minutes of stoppage time following the string of injuries, Jacob Murphy shot from distance before Dallas broke into the Newcastle box after a good header from Raphinha and his cross was inches from Patrick Bamford

Leeds had almost a second to spare shortly after the break, Raphinha found Dallas in the box from the right wing and his goal was saved by Darlow The ball then bounced off Dallas over the crossbar, but the goal was disqualified when the rebound first hit Dallas’ arm

Murphy saw a goal as a distraction for the hosts before Miguel Almiron tested Illan Meslier from 25 yards

Newcastle scored in the 57th Minute equalized and gained possession of the ball deep in Leeds’ half Callum Wilson sent Almiron in and his powerful shot had enough to beat Meslier

Just four minutes later, Leeds regained the lead Kalvin Phillips tossed a pass to Harrison who defeated the offside trap and fired a nice half volley into the top corner

Murphy shot just inches wide trying to hit the Magpies level again before Raphinha found substitute Tyler Roberts in the Newcastle box, but Karl Darlow scored a good low save

Newcastle substitute Allan Saint-Maximin set up Jamal Lewis in the Leeds box but failed to hold his goal while Schar was rejected after a Meslier free kick

The hosts almost equalized from a corner, but Meslier made a fabulous save to deny Shelvey’s header

Newcastle continued to throw everything at Leeds, with Schar moving forward before hitting goal, but Meslier again made an excellent stop

Leeds United kept their lead in the closing stages and St James’ Park with all three dots left
