Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had to spend time in hospital with Gabon after an illness in the international service Aubameyang: “I feel a lot better every day thanks to the great doctors who recognized and treated the virus so quickly”

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has announced that he is recovering from malaria after contracting the disease while serving on international service with Gabon

The Arsenal captain missed Sunday’s 3-0 Premier League win at Sheffield United and missed the Europa League quarter-final second leg against Slavia Prague on Thursday evening

But just moments before the start of his teammates in the Czech capital, Aubameyang published the news of his illness on Instagram

“Unfortunately, I contracted malaria a few weeks ago while working for the national team in Gabon

“I spent a few days in the hospital this week, but thanks to the great doctors who identified and treated the virus so quickly, I am feeling much better every day

“I haven’t really felt myself in the last few weeks, but I’ll soon be stronger than ever!

“I’m going to watch my boys now, a huge game for us! Let’s go and get it @arsenal”

Aubameyang played in the first leg against Slavia and came off the bench to score a goal from Nicolas Pepe in the 1-1 draw

But after his malaria diagnosis it remains to be seen how long he will stand on the sidelines
