In an open interview, Nicola Coughlan recalled the time when she “had no money”, “couldn’t get up” and felt like she “failed at everything” It took her a long time to get up mentally recover from the continued support of family and friends

As Nicola reflected on her experience, she said, “I had to return to Ireland from London. I hadn’t auditioned for about a year

“I didn’t have any money in my bank account so I had to move back in with my parents

“I was so depressed and it was so hard there was a very slow recovery from it”

“I felt like I had failed at everything, I felt like I had nothing and I had let my family down”

“I didn’t want to be with people because I didn’t want them to feel down,” she added

“I thought if I went out with my friends I would be the worthless person in the corner, but that’s such a dangerous mindset”

While she was deeply depressed, her sister literally pulled her out of bed and let her go

“Things like that made me sense again,” she commented. Her family’s continued support allowed her to slowly change the way she thought

“Everyone needs to know that they are loved,” she said. “There is always someone out there to take care of you

“It is so important to talk the more open we are, the less we realize that this is not uncommon and that there is a way out”

They are also “bad enough to affect your work, social life, and family life”

Depression tends to creep in on people “Many people could try to deal with their symptoms without realizing that they were feeling uncomfortable,” added the NHS,
