The England and Manchester United forward received a Panel Special Award at the event in Salford on Sunday evening

On receiving his award, the 23-year-old said: “Growing up as a child, I had the feeling that I was 50 meters behind everyone else in a 100-meter race

“It was harder for me to do the basic things like exercise, eat the right things, it was a nightmare of a situation I was in, but in the end I got where I needed to be

“When I got there I just had this thing that consumed me and said,” Make sure you are making a difference for the next generation “

“I think that as a country we should protect them as much as possible and give them the best opportunities in life and become what they want to be

During further campaigns, the government backed off and announced that disadvantaged children would be offered free meals during the Christmas holidays

Rashford has formed a Child Food Poverty Task Force that teams up with some of the largest supermarkets and grocery brands in the country, and is an ambassador for the FareShare charity that fights hunger and food waste

He paid tribute to his mother’s sacrifice and said, “Everything I get from what I’ve done will always sit in her house and sit where she can see it every day because she is the person struggling circumstances led me to become a moral person
