Scottish football icon Kenny Dalglish believes Celtic’s next manager will be “the highest caliber available” “

The former Parkhead star knows the outgoing Premiership champions desperately need a response to rivals Steven Gerrard and Rangers this summer

A variety of big names have been associated with major shareholder Dermot Desmond, who is tasked with identifying a long-term successor to Neil Lennon

And Dalglish is back on his previous team to get it all right when Celtic becomes challenger again for the first time in ten years

In his Sunday Post column, he said, “Around a dozen names have been associated with the job of manager. At the moment, there doesn’t seem to be a clear front runner in the eyes of supporters and the media

“Dermot Desmond holds his cards very close to his chest and so it should be

“I don’t know who Neil’s replacement will be, but I know it will be one of the highest caliber available

And the 70-year-old has urged his former team to be patient if next season success doesn’t come right away

Dalglish was dismayed by the protests at the beginning of the campaign and hopes the new campaign will offer signs of hope

He added, “There will still be a lot more work to do in the current roster, including what happens to skipper Scott Brown

“They also come at a time when the Rangers are getting pretty much started

“It took him and his staff time to get where they are now, on the verge of winning the championship title for the first time in a decade

“With all of this in mind, Celtic supporters need to show patience and understanding for the new people in the boardroom, technical area and on the field

“But there’s a better chance of winning games and cutlery when everyone is pulling in the same direction”
