Boris Johnson said international travel could potentially start again in earnest from May as travelers plan trips for later in the year

The tour operator said destinations such as Spain, Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Turkey saw an increase in demand from July

Steve Heapy, Managing Director of Jet2holidays, said: “We have seen tremendous backlog of demand from UK vacationers for a while and people wanted nothing more than to get out in the sun and enjoy their well-deserved vacation

“The government announcement is the news they’ve been longing for, and the continued surge in bookings shows how ready our customers are to get out in the sun on a true package holiday”

However, since no earlier than 17 May a trip was permitted, Jet2 stated that all trips up to and including 16 May have been canceled

Heapy added, “We are very pleased that the government has shown clear ambitions to reopen international travel in the coming months, and look forward to more details in due course

“During the pandemic we did absolutely everything to look after our valued customers and independent travel agency partners, and we have always said the sun will shine for them again

“We know what an incredibly difficult time it was for everyone, and we really look forward to taking everyone from our rainy islands to their dream vacation this summer and beyond”
