Jason Naismith of Ross County hopes Borna Barisic’s hands-on tutorial will benefit him going forward

The marauding Croatian left-back played a key role in the Scottish Premier League’s 5-0 win over the Staggies in Ibrox on Saturday, as Steven Gerrard’s side increased their lead over Celtic to 23 points after three more games

At 26, right-back Naismith, who recently returned to the Highland Club after a stint in Peterborough, is not a freshman but does admit that Barisic opened his eyes

Prior to Motherwell’s visit on Wednesday night, the former St. Mirren: “Obviously you are playing against international players that you always learn on the job, and my direct opponent was Barisic

“That guy’s a Croatian international and you take little hints Even with me at 26, some of the things he did during the game are on my mind and hopefully that will improve me as a player

“I know I walked away from the game with that attitude. Just small things. When the ball collapses, how quickly it comes back into position

“Not necessarily that he had to, I just think that he has developed good habits when he meets better teams that will likely put more pressure on him if he’s brutally honest

“It was just an eye opener for me to see him adopt good habits, how good he was professional, how fit he was

“It’s been a good experience you are taking things from your full career, from a little boy in St. Mirren playing against the first team when you realize how far away you are

“If you don’t bring these things on board, you’ll never get better Every time you play against a top team you have to give pointers to these guys because they are on top teams for a reason””

County is tenth in the table, one point ahead of Motherwell, who played two more games, and Naismith knows how important the game is

He said: “Obviously there is a team around us in the league and they will also be desperate to score points here. We have to make sure we are in.”

“We are at home and last time we played against Aberdeen we had a positive result (4-1) and a positive performance It has to be a similar approach of ours and we have to defend well because they have quality

“They finished third with basically the same squad last year so we are under no illusions about how difficult a job will be, but it is as important to us as it is to them and we need to make sure that they know you were in a game ”
