css-14iz86j-BoldText {font size: bold;} Donald Trump has vowed that he will be back “in some form” after leaving the White House for the last time as president

He told supporters as he was preparing to fly to Florida that it was “a great honor to be your president”

He is the first president to refuse the inauguration of his successor since 1869 but said: “I wish the new government good luck and good luck”

Joe Biden will take the oath of office under heavy security by noon (17:00 GMT) in Washington

About 25000 soldiers will be guarding the inauguration ceremony after a deadly riot by pro-Trump supporters at the Capitol earlier this month

Mr Trump made his final speech as President of Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, after being flown there from the White House with First Lady Melania Trump

In an unwritten speech, he highlighted his “amazing” achievements, including job creation, the establishment of a “space force,” veterans and tax policies, and the rapid development of Covid vaccines

He urged people to deal “very, very carefully” with the “terrible” pandemic and to show respect for those affected

He added, “It was a great honor and privilege to be your President I will always fight for you I will watch I will listen

“I wish the new administration the best of luck and success I think they will have great success. They have the foundation to do something really spectacular”

But as with his farewell video address on Tuesday, he didn’t mention Mr. Biden by name

Mr. Trump added, “Goodbye, we love you We will be back in some form, Have a good life We will see you soon”

He also paid tribute to Vice President Mike Pence, who was not with Andrews and opted for the housewarming ceremony instead

Mr Trump will be the first President not to attend his successor’s inauguration since Andrew Johnson turned down Ulysses S Grant in 1869

In his final hours, Mr. Trump pardoned more than 140 people, including his former adviser Steve Bannon, who was charged with fraud

In a farewell video message on Tuesday, Mr. Trump urged Americans to pray for the incoming administration, saying he was proud of what he had accomplished over the past four years

Mr Trump has been relatively calm since his followers on Jan. January attacked Congress and his Twitter account was banned

He never congratulated Joe Biden on his victory and always denied the result of the presidential election citing unsubstantiated allegations of electoral fraud

But White House spokesman Judd Deere told AFP that Mr Trump left a traditional letter for Mr Biden
