Gemma Arterton, 34, was featured in the comedy St Trinian’s famous and has since played a number of characters from a Bond girl in the 2008 film Quantum of Solace alongside Daniel Craig to a famous witch hunter in Hansel and Gretel in 2013, most recently taking on the role of rebellious nun Sister Clodagh in the TV series adaptation of Black Narcissus, a 1939 novel by Rumer Godden, but she revealed that she was actually telling her future co-star the late Dame Diana Rigg that she had secured the part before it was actually offered

The three-part series that airs this month follows a group of nuns who face mysterious challenges and want to build a monastery in the hostile environment of a remote ancient Himalayan palace

Dame Diana plays mother Dorothea, who was her last TV appearance before she turned on Jan. September died at the age of 82

Gemma was already friends with the veteran actress through her own husband and Dame Diana’s daughter Rachel Stirling, and revealed that she told a “cheeky” Fib

“My husband played with Rachael and I was waiting to hear if I would do Black Narcissus,” she said in a recent interview

“And I was watching the play with Diana and she asked me what I was doing next

She remembered that Lady Diana was happy for her, but kept it calm that she would be on the series too

She said, “Then we were on the set and we’re in our habits and she was so wonderful. She’s so fun. Actually, she would have been a great young Clodagh. There’s something about it

“I remember we just had fun those days. She told me about this cocktail she made herself called ‘D’s Dynamite’ and which consists of Cointreau and the rest of the Prosecco

“And so on her last day I brought Prosecco and Cointreau, and we had them, And she had two

“We really were It goes into your head and I remember it But it was great and what an absolute honor to have worked with her on it and what an amazing legend she was”

She added that she only had “the best memories” of herself and affectionately paid tribute to the actress

Dame Diana was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and died peacefully at home, her daughter confirmed,

She will also appear in the horror film Last Night In Soho, which is slated to premiere in April 2021

Black Narcissus will be released on 27, 28 and 29 Shown December at 9 p.m. on BBC One
