Before the highly anticipated WellChild Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday, we take a look at every runner, including the hat trick chasing Al Boum photo and Santini

Al Boum Photo, the Willie Mullins-trained pursuer who is running for a three-time Gold Cup winner for Cottage Rake, Arkle and Best Mate, leads the dozen runners entered for Friday’s race

Mullins has made the same preparations that have worked so well for Al Boum Photo over the past two seasons – with just one appearance at the Tramore racecourse on New Years Day before its biggest season date at the festival on Friday

There are two chances the race will go exactly like Tuesday’s hurdle against a female jockey Rachael Blackmore will team up with Henry de Bromhead again, this time on A Plus Tard, while Bryony Frost gets another shot of story about popular front runner Frodon after winning the King George at Kempton this Christmas

As expected, their rivals include Venetia Williams’ highly progressive newcomer Royale Pagaille – the last newcomer to win in 2015 was Coneygree – and last year’s runner-up Santini, for whom the ground is drying out well

If Nicky Henderson is set to win a third Gold Cup, however, the market prefers Santini’s stable companion Champ, owned by JP McManus and named after his former jockey AP McCoy, who warmed up for the Newbury race last month and got over two miles second

Conclusion: winner of the last two races of the Gold Cup and bid for his hat trick Looks like he has a lot in his favor and wants to beat a lot

Conclusion: Consistent, tough, high-class pursuer, who has reached the limit in all 15 career starts, continues to this day. Strong winner of the Savills Chase in class 1 last time – very respected here

Conclusion: Last year’s RSA Chase winner only had a two-mile start this season – after wind operation – and is now climbing a full 10 furlongs in the distance – big question

Bottom Line: Still a beginner and intriguing contender who has put up high profile numbers over fences in winning his last three starts, however, this is a big step up in the class and perhaps best to watch

Conclusion: Second in last year’s Gold Cup, but a little overwhelming in three starts this season. Loves Cheltenham, but comes here with some evidence – the first-time visor can help

Conclusion: Grand Chaser, winner of the Gold Cup 2018 before fourth place in the renewal in 2019, did not take part in last year’s race due to injury. Possibly too big a question for this likeable 11-year-old

Conclusion: Something like an outsider in the chase who has won seven times – out of twelve starts – in the last three seasons, but the market has not once relegated him from the favorite during this time surpass

Verdict: Four-time, Class 1 awarded pursuer, but failed to resist placing Heavy Horse on four visits to Cheltenham

Bottom line: To prove a bit after being dropped off by the favorite last time in the Savills Chase Class 1 May have looked prime on-site claims

Conclusion: Third in the Gold Cup last year, but lagged far behind his best in three starts this season. More than capable on his day, but has a lot to prove here

Conclusion: Very likeable upright, but the form does not correspond to the level that is probably required here. Could fight against younger legs here – best observed

Bottom Line: Placed on four of his five visits to Cheltenham, but form wasn’t quite up to date this season. Set yourself up for a supporting role this afternoon
