Barnett, 33, from Gloucestershire, has received two Brit Award nominations for best British solo artist. LaBeouf, 34, is known for films like Transformers and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

They met on the set of the film Honey Boy in 2018 and were nine months old They split in May 2019, citing conflicting work schedules, but it was discovered in December 2020 that Barnett was suing LeBeouf for sexual battery, assault, and inflicting emotional stress

Barnett told Theroux that there was “an intense honeymoon at the beginning” before LaBeouf’s behavior became abusive

She said she was beginning to realize that he was becoming “more jealous and controlling” and noted the “little things that could be done wrong that could affect happiness”

“To me, it was nice to a waiter or polite to someone who could be seen as a flirt or a relationship with someone else if I was literally just ordering pasta and being polite”She said

“I was told I knew what he is like and if I loved him I wouldn’t look men in the eyes. That was my reality for a good four months towards the end of the relationship, that I wouldn’t look men in the eyes was allowed to see “

Barnett said she started looking at the floor when the couple went out together and isolated herself from her friends and family, “I’ve just lived a very regulated and low-key life that I believed was got me into the least bit of trouble, “she said

Barnett said she was expected to achieve a daily quota of affection, with LaBeouf expecting her to kiss him a certain number of times per day or repeat often how much she cared for him. But such efforts on their part did not prevent him from becoming insecure

“He would wake me up at night to accuse me of all kinds of things,” she said. “Accuse me of staring at the ceiling and thinking about ways to leave him. I accuse myself of wanting to be with someone else , but it would always be like that – I would say between four and seven in the morning “

She added, “For a long time, anything that woke me up at night, even if it was just my dog, a noise outside, or just going to the bathroom, could trigger a really intense panic attack

“I had PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) which again is just something I believe we as a society aren’t really talking about, just in terms of healing on leaving and how much work that needs to be done to relax and return to the person you were before “

LaBeouf previously told the New York Times that many of Barnett’s claims are false, but said he owed her and Karolyn Pho, another woman whose claims are included in the lawsuit, “the opportunity to publicly make her statements make and [for me] take responsibility for the things I’ve done “

In another statement, he added: “I am unable to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, just rationalizations

“I have abused myself and everyone around me for years. I have hurt the people closest to me in the past. I am ashamed of this story and apologize to those I have hurt, otherwise I cannot say anything”

Barnett told Theroux that a “turning point” had come when she called an abuse helpline, the singer said the conversation was a “massive wake-up call” and helped her begin the mental process of leaving

Barnett has released two albums as FKA Twigs, the first of which, LP1, reached # 16 in the UK charts and was nominated for the Mercury Prize
