ITV’s popular skating competition is back for 2021, but after being injured during rehearsals, the line-up has already changed – here’s what happened
Dancing On Ice 2021 returns this weekend with a brand new line-up, however a couple won’t make their debut after injuring themselves at rehearsals
The ITV series splits the launch show over two weeks, with six celebrities on Sunday 17th January, and the other six ice skating for the next week
Olympic skier Graham Bell and professional skater Yebin Mok were slated to debut in the first episode, but had to retire from the live show after a rehearsal accident
Dancing On Ice host Phillip Schofield announced the news that morning, stating it was “a very nasty stab wound from an ice blade”
He added that “you could actually see the tendons” and confirmed that Yebin would be out of the competition for a few weeks while she recovered
In a statement, Graham stated, “I fell while we were training on Monday and Yebin, my pro dance partner, fell on the back of my skate. She was pretty badly injured in the shin and needed surgery to to clean and sew up the wound
“She spent Monday night at Watford Hospital and was released yesterday Fortunately there was no nerve or tendon damage “
That means Rufus Hound and his partner Robin Johnstone will show up and ice skate for the first week instead
In the second week, Graham will skate with Karina Manta, who stands for Yebin
She said, “Just a big thank you to the staff at Watford Hospital! Doctors, surgeons, nurses, scrub nurses, surgical team, anesthetists, emergency care, convalescent care
“They were all so nice, so caring, and looked after me so well on my Monday night. They are truly heroes! So grateful for the care I’ve received And thanks to them my leg is feeling so much already better to “
She added, “Such unfortunate timing, but I also count my lucky stars when I cut through the muscles, rather than nerves, bones, vessels or tendons!
