Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, accused creator Joss Whedon of molesting her on the sets of iconic TV shows, particularly while she was pregnant

The actor tweeted a statement Wednesday claiming Whedon “abused his power on multiple occasions” and created a “hostile and toxic work environment” while working with him on Buffy and Angel

She claimed that Whedon called her “fat” with colleagues in the fourth month of her pregnancy, asked her if she “would keep it”, and discharged her after she was born

“Joss has a story in which he was casually cruel,” said Carpenter. “Although he found his wrongdoing amusing, it only served to heighten my performance anxiety, disempower me and alienate me from my colleagues”

She said the “disruptive incidents” triggered a “chronic physical condition” that she still has. She said she was isolated and “sometimes destructive” handling it “

Carpenter’s complex and nuanced role as Cordelia in three seasons of Buffy and four of Angel made her a fan favorite. Her character’s death to Angel was widely criticized by fans of teen drama

Following Carpenter’s allegations, her Buffy co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar posted a statement on Instagram: “While I’m proud to associate my name with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be associated with the name forever will”Joss Whedon”

Gellar said she will not make any further statements at this point, adding, “I stand by all of the abuse survivors and I am proud that they spoke out”

When she was four months pregnant, she called her coworkers “fat” while weighing 126 pounds. When she met her, she added, he berated her and despised her for having a rosary tattoo she called ” spiritually grounded “felt”

She said Whedon deliberately turned down several calls from her agents to inform him of her pregnancy. When he found out, he asked her in a closed meeting if she “would keep it,” Carpenter said. p>

“He attacked my character, mocked my religious beliefs, accused me of sabotaging the show, and then unceremoniously fired me as soon as I was born the following season,” she said

Carpenter said she only endured the abuse because she wanted to take care of her future child as the main breadwinner for her family

She said these incidents occurred during one of the “best” times as a new mom

Carpenter’s allegations come a month after Warner Media completed an investigation into Whedon’s behavior on the Justice League set
The investigation was sparked by actor Ray Fisher’s allegations last July that Whedon’s “treatment of the Justice League cast and crew on set was harsh, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable”

Warner Media said “remedial measures” were taken following the investigation, but the company did not provide details. Fisher was recently fired as a cyborg from the upcoming DC movie The Flash

Carpenter said she participated in the investigation she believes “Ray is a person of integrity who tells the truth.” She said his shot from The Flash was “the last straw”

“I now hope to finally talk about these experiences, make space for the healing of others who I know have experienced similar serialized abuses of power,” she said
