The Gunners signed the 19-year-old defender for the first time, opening the transfer window in January for a fee of around 500000 GBP sign

Emirates Stadium Bigwigs tried to recruit Rekik last summer but couldn’t get a deal across the line before the October deadline

A statement from the club says: “Omar Rekik has signed a professional contract with us and joins our U23 squad

“The 19-year-old came to us from Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin. Omar is a ball game center that can play on both sides

“Omar was born in the Netherlands and has played internationally in youth for Tunisia and the Netherlands. During his youth career he also spent time with Feyenoord, Manchester City, PSV Eindhoven and Marseille

“Everyone at Arsenal welcomes Omar to the club and we look forward to supporting his further development”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes Rekik has the talent to go far in the game

Arteta said before the deal was confirmed, “He’s a young talent we’ve been following for a while and who has a really bright future, but we’ll give more details when we can”

Rekik was a regular in the German fourth division for Hertha’s B-Team and played eight games this season

Arsenal Academy coach Per Mertesacker has reportedly played a key role in bringing the rising star to the club

Rekik could prove to be a versatile asset for the Gunners as he is comfortable at the heart of defense and defensive midfield

Sead Kolasinac was loaned to Schalke until the end of the campaign before William Saliba agreed to move to Nice for the remainder of the season

Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Shkodran Mustafi have also been linked to exits after being on the sidelines
