Hastings and Rother went Tier 4 on Sunday, but on Wednesday Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced that all of East Sussex would go to the toughest category due to a surge in Covid-19 cases

The East Sussex restriction, with the exception of Hastings and Rother, comes into effect at 12 noon on Boxing Day (Jan. December) Hastings and Rother are already in Tier 4

Mr Hancock said Covid-19 cases across the UK have increased 56 percent in the past week. He said Tier 3 was “not enough” to control the new variant of the virus

The new restrictions for East Sussex are largely in line with the national lockdown rules introduced last month

Non-essential retail and indoor gyms will also have to close. People must also stay at home, with limited exceptions. The common worship service can continue and people should also work from home if they can

In Tier 4, people with support bladders are only allowed to mix with people outside their own household

People who live in Tier 4 areas are also not allowed to travel abroad The restrictions will come into effect on Jan. December checked

On Saturday, Mr. Johnson announced the additional tier, saying, “We cannot continue Christmas as planned”

He added that the spread of the virus in London and the South East was driven by the new variant of Covid-19

However, the Prime Minister reiterated that there is no evidence that this leads to more severe illness or higher mortality

Mr Johnson said, “It can be up to 70 percent more transferable than the old variant”

The government’s chief scientific advisor, Sir Patrick Vallance, said the new variant of Covid-19 was first seen in London and Kent in mid-September and has become the “dominant” variant in London this month

Hastings and Rother were out last week due to rising infection rates following an announcement by Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Thursday (Jan. December) has been subjected to stricter Tier 3 restrictions

The rest of East Sussex and West Sussex were kept under Tier 2 along with Brighton and Hove

Prior to the announcement on Saturday evening, Professor Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer for England said, “As announced on Monday, the UK has identified a new variant of Covid-19 through Public Health England genomic surveillance

“Due to the rapid spread of the new variant, preliminary model data, and rapidly increasing incidence rates in the Southeast, the Advisory Group on New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats (NERVTAG) now believes that the new strain can spread more rapidly

“We have alerted the World Health Organization and are continuing to analyze the available data to improve our understanding

“There is currently no evidence that the new strain is causing a higher death rate or affecting vaccines and treatments, although urgent work is being done to confirm this

“With this latest development, it is more important than ever that the public continue to take action in their area to reduce transmission”
