Earlier this week, Rufus Hound announced that he was quitting Dancing on Ice after testing positive for coronavirus a second time as a result, the show is a celebrity contestant, but fear not, Matt Richardson was for Spot to step in and take the comedian’s place tonight, the TV presenter will be on the ice for the first time with professional ice skater Vicky Ogden before his debut, Matt spoke about the injuries he’s already sustained, and apparently Christopher Dean is responsible for it

Matt appeared in the Friday edition of Lorraine and told host Lorraine Kelly about his training time

Matt revealed, “I was almost at the end of my replacement and got ready to get ready, so it’s a bit of a surprise

“I trained just as much as everyone else, I just did it off-camera and didn’t do the show on a Sunday, so I started in October, five days a week since then”

Then a clip from Matt training played and Lorraine said he looked pretty “bambian” on the ice

He replied, “That was my second day on the ice, this was a few days after the master class I think there are a lot of people who think I haven’t [improved] so we’ll see”

As with every other participant, Matt suffered an injury with his skates during the first few weeks

“I got hurt. It was all Christopher Dean’s fault, I even think he knows it deep down,” explained Matt

“On the day of the master class, I went skating and I was terrible and they said the problem was my limbs which is not ideal

“He gave me a pole to skate on to keep my arms from moving and when I was skating with the pole, I caught the front of my blade and went over the front of the pole and because I was something held that I couldn’t hold“I put out my hands to stop myself and my face took the whole fall

As he felt about being a replacement, Matt said, “I think it’s the best thing to me that you did to me Didn’t have much time to think about it, I just got it without trying too scared and hopefully it’ll be okay

“Ultimately, when things go bad, I’m a comedian, so it was very deliberate”

Tonight, Matt and Vicky will perform for the first time and he’s confident

“The routine is done. I have yet to see my outfit, but I’m doing a paso doble so I think I’ll be a glittery matador,” he said to Lorraine

Matt also shared the advice his girlfriend gave him: “She basically told me to act like I was embarrassed

“It’s a nasty thing and I’m a pretty nasty man. When she’s modeling and doing something that she might feel a little stupid about, she says all you have to do is 100%, because if you’re doing less does, you look like an idiot ”

Matt further revealed that this is the first show his mom can tell her friends to watch

“Because of the kind of TV shows I usually do that usually run on ITV2 at around 1:30 in the morning she can finally tell her friends to watch because I won’t swear and talk about rude things”, he laughed
