The Bluebirds made the long overland journey to Norfolk to face the soaring Canaries in this afternoon’s championship fight

The Bluebirds were played outside the park on Carrow Road, with Emi Buendia and Todd Cantwell scoring one goal each half to give Daniel Farke’s side a well-deserved win

From the start it looked like a Premier League team was waiting against a championship team battling for their way into the game

Norwich moved the ball so comfortably and even with a full midfield of three, Cardiff midfielders could barely get a foot in

Todd Cantwell and Emi Buendia were the main creators, and Teemu Pukki’s clever runs worried Cardiff’s defenders

It was no surprise the hosts got their first big chance when Buendia’s cross found Kenny McLean at the back post as he overtook Leandro Bacuna to take a header on goal, luckily for City Post by

Cantwell and Pukki really started racing then, making for a number of really good openings for the Canaries, the first of which was denied by Greg Cunningham being intercepted in the final ditch while another saw the striker make a golden one A duel spurned the chance to pull his exertion far

But Norwich had really stepped on the gas and the gap between the two sides widened considerably as half went on

The Bluebirds stood a great chance when Sean Morrison headed a cross from Harry Wilson towards the goal, but Michael McGovern barely managed to keep them out

Cardiff’s soft defense allowed Buendia to drive through the middle of the field As the defenders stepped away from him, the midfielder pulled the trigger and drilled his attempt into the bottom corner to give the hosts the lead they deserved

Cardiff’s only real threat came from the set piece and just before half-time Cardiff had the best chance of the half Wilson tossed a nice ball at the back post and Morrison again headed at close range, but an unheard-of one Parade from McGovern, holding out a strong right hand, somehow managed to refuse him

Almost immediately after the restart, Pukki looked dangerous. A bad pass from Marlon Pack gave Pukki a chance with Goldrand, but the striker’s shot went excruciatingly far

Just minutes later, Cantwell shot the Finn back in, but his heavy touch showed Alex Smithies just enough of the ball coming out to expertly choke

The game was just beginning to open up and with that mistake, Pack presented another opportunity as Pukki expropriated him from a dangerous area before releasing Buendia at break, but Smithies settled down to get his shot around the corner

But a second came, you could just feel it and it was fitting that after 70 minutes it fell on the excellent Cantwell

Again, he was given too much space, but Cantwell, who received the ball 25 yards from Buendia, took full advantage of the opportunity when he shot his shot home, leaving the Smithies no chance

It was a chastising defeat for the Bluebirds and one that highlighted how far they have to go if they are to make it with the big boys in this division

It may shift the balance from five wins in six before this game to two losses in the last three and with the little Brentford deal on the other side of Christmas it won’t get any easier anytime soon
