15 March (Renewables Now) – Finnish renewable fuel manufacturer Neste Oyj (HEL: NESTE) has selected a location in Rotterdam for the construction of the new refinery for renewable products, it announced on Monday

The company has completed a thorough investigation of two possible locations – the one in Rotterdam and one in Porvoo, Finland It has existing facilities in both locations

“Based on thorough studies and calculations, the total cost of investing in Rotterdam is significantly lower,” said Peter Vanacker, President and CEO of Neste

The biofuel company has chosen Rotterdam because of the proximity of new markets for renewable aviation and renewable polymers and chemicals Hydrogen supply will benefit

Neste hopes to make a final investment decision towards the end of this year or early 2022

In the meantime, the company remains determined to make significant investments in the Porvoo site in order to achieve climate-neutral production by 2035
