Naomi Judd announced that her daughter Ashley Judd is still bedridden after her “catastrophic” accident in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

When Naomi appeared on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” she told the host that Ashley should have her stitches removed on Friday morning

“It was very serious – she could have died” said Naomi “She survived She is very brave I cannot get up”

In February, Ashley “almost lost her leg” while traveling to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to research the endangered bonobo monkey. She tripped over a fallen tree, shattered her leg in four places and suffered nerve damage

After her first fall, Ashley said on Instagram that she experienced a “55 hour grueling” rescue after the early morning fall

“When I broke my leg, I knew it was broken,” she said at the time. “What came next was an incredibly harrowing 55 hours”

Ashley added that she lay on the rainforest floor with a “badly shaped leg” for five hours while “biting my stick,” “howling like a beast,” and “was in shock”

After a coworker resettled her bones, she was carried out of the rainforest on a hammock for 90 minutes. Then she went on a six-hour motorcycle tour that forced her to “physically hold the upper part of my broken tibia together”

“I’m a woman from the wild as you know accidents happen,” Ashley said in an Instagram video

On 6 March Ashley updated her fans with an update on her recovery, saying she is “drowning in trauma” and “experiencing wild agony” “

“I don’t understand why what happened happened,” wrote Ashley, “I understand I was loved and tremendously helped I understand nights are wild agony”

At the time, she admitted that she “had no idea” how exhausting physical therapy could be

“I’m just beginning and the combination of drowning in trauma and addressing the physical body is a lot,” she wrote, “But you did it, and so did I.”
