The Weeknd may be known for its graphic music videos and performances of gore and violence, but the three-time Grammy winner says he’ll tone down his performance during the Super Bowl halftime show

The pop star said he would “keep” it during his headlining slot on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium while reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tampa, Fla. He promised, ” to be respectful of the audience ”

“I’m going to include part of the storyline. It’s a very cohesive story I’ve told this era and this year,” he said. “The story continues, but definitely remains for the PG families”

The 2021 Pepi Super Bowl halftime show will be different this year due to the pandemic, and The Weeknd said it will use different parts of the stadium, the field, and a “little piece” of the famously massive pirate ship, but the singer wouldn’t dragged into details of his show “You have to watch on Sunday,” he said

When asked about his favorite Super Bowl halftime show, The Weeknd cited Diana Ross’ 1996 appearance. She was lowered onto the stage by a sparkler crane, hundreds of dancers spelled their names in the field, she made three costume changes and went by helicopter

The Weeknd, however, broke into the mainstream with his hit “Can’t Feel My Face,” which featured on his second studio album, “Beauty Behind the Madness,” which topped the Billboard 200 and won a Grammy in 2015 three other top albums including his recently released offering “After Hours” which was released in March

Last year, The Weeknd’s hit single “Blinding Lights” was his fifth song, which peaked at No 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 table. He also won Grammys for his album “Starboy” and the song “Earned It ( Fifty Shades of Gray)”

Roc Nation and Emmy nominated producer Jesse Collins will co-executive produce the halftime show. The game and halftime show will be aired live on CBS

Collins said he wanted to host a live halftime show that “is unique and reflects the creativity we all bring to the process of translating The Weeknd’s unparalleled vision”

The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, joins a list of famous musicians who played during the Super Bowl halftime shows, including Madonna, Beyoncé, Coldplay, Katy Perry, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lady Gaga, and Michael Jackson and last year’s duo of Shakira and Jennifer Lopez
