The people of Toronto are proud of Schitt’s Creek Golden Globe victories

Schitt’s Creek has made Toronto proud of its historic accomplishments since the little CBC show became an international sensation last season, and last night’s Golden Globes ceremony was no exception

The series filmed in Ontario won two awards during the 2021 ceremony on Sunday night, and to say that Toronto residents were full of pride is an understatement

Makes me happy, warm and blurry inside! ❤️ I have to celebrate by watching the series for 4 Mal Lol @SchittsCreek #GoldenGlobes https: // tco / gYXDRb03bA

For Schitt’s Creek fans, the first high point of the night was when actor, director, producer and writer Dan Levy accepted the award for best TV series, best musical or best comedy from here in Toronto – an inspiring speech on the importance of inclusion and diversity in a year where so many popular shows and films were snapped up by black creators

“Thank you CBC and POP TV for actively choosing to keep this little show up in the air and giving it the time and space it needs to grow like so many TV shows out there.” / p>

“This recognition is a nice vote of confidence in the messages that ‘Schitt’s Creek’ stands for The idea that inclusion can create growth and love for a community, “he said

“For the sake of inclusion, I hope this ceremony next year around this time reflects the true breadth and diversity of the film and television that are being shot today because there is so much more to celebrate”

Congratulations to @SchittsCreek and Catherine O’Hara for winning the #GoldenGlobes !!! @danjlevy with another great inspirational speech to make Canada proud! 🇨🇦

Later, beloved Canadian comedian Catherine O’Hara took home the award for best actress in a television series, musical, or comedy, and the icon and her husband performed a fun gag during their acceptance speech, which with general Award music and applause were accompanied by sound effects and music telling her to wrap it up

She also thanked Dan and Eugene Levy for “writing an inspiring, fun, beautiful family love story of wearing [them] 100 wigs and letting them speak like an alien”

The series was at the 78 nominated for a total of five awards at the annual Golden Globes While only taking home two trophies, the people of Toronto have been celebrating international recognition ever since

Mayor John Tory even tweeted his congratulations last night, saying the series wins made the city incredibly proud

And while some die-hard fans have been disappointed, the series hasn’t swept all five of the categories it was nominated for, as it did at the Emmy’s, but it’s safe to say that Schitt’s Creek is on the air after five years has finally received the critical recognition and recognition it rightly deserves
