The Ottawa Senators have taken on Arizona Coyotes forward Derek Stepan in exchange for a selection in the second round of the 2021 NHL draft
Stepan had 10 goals and 18 assists in 70 games for the Coyotes last season. The 30-year-old has played in 739 career games between the Coyotes and the New York Rangers, scoring 167 goals and 312 assists
“Derek’s acquisition provides us with vital mid-season stability,” said Senator GM Pierre Dorion. “He plays a 200-foot game and has proven to be a reliable special-team player throughout his career. His addition to our lineup is going to be also represent a valuable leadership presence within our group “
Most of Stepan’s money this season has been paid out as a signing bonus, leaving $ 2 million in salary for the final year of his contract
Stepan has $ 6 million left on his contract for one year, but TSN Senior Hockey Reporter Frank Seravalli reported that most of his money was paid out as a signing bonus and only 2 million for the final year of his contract Dollar salary remained
