Ontario just passed a bill to make daylight saving time permanent

The Province of Ontario has just taken a giant step forward in ending our widespread biannual clock change ritual once and for all

All we need now is Quebec and New York State to play along

A private member bill, entitled “The Time Amendment Act,” tabled by Ottawa MPP Jeremy Roberts of West Nepal, was passed unanimously in the third and final reading within the legislature on Wednesday

The passage of Bill 214 paves the way for government officials to end the practice of forcing us to resign every March or March November “jump forward” and “fall back” by an hour

No more infernal loop of planned mass orientation twice a year; Just a consistent 24-hour clock with which our circadian rhythms can be synchronized

#BREAKING – Ontario lawmakers just passed a bill that removes the biannual clock change and permanently sets Ontario to daylight saving time, but the government has announced that the bill will not go into effect until Quebec & New York also the same change goes into effect BildTwittercom / DiLTWk9pVE

According to the applicable laws, Ontario would remain permanently set to daylight saving time, which eliminates 4:30 p.m. We currently experience sunsets during today’s standard time

Unfortunately, despite the full legislature support, the bill still requires royal approval before being converted into law – and the provincial attorney general has only agreed to do so alongside neighboring jurisdictions of Quebec and New York. p>

However, this is a significant development after years of turning the idea on its head based on academic studies suggesting that these biannual clock changes can have serious negative effects (increased rates of depression, heart attacks, strokes, and a high number of fatal collisions among them according to Roberts)

“I am thrilled that my bill, which ended the clock change in Ontario, went through final reading tonight with unanimous support,” the MPP said in a statement on Wednesday
