Ontario is extending the state of emergency and the home order for at least two more weeks

A stay at home order will remain in effect across Ontario for at least two weeks, the provincial government has confirmed, thanks to the extension of the ongoing state of emergency

This state of emergency was declared on 12 Declared January 1 by Prime Minister Doug Ford in the skyrocketing cases of COVID-19 and is the second Ontario has suffered from since the first pandemic in early 2020

For those who do not remember from the first time, the states of emergency must be legally extended every two weeks – otherwise they will expire

Ford said when he explained the emergency and residency orders earlier this month that they would remain in effect for at least 28 days, but on paper nothing could be certain as his government had yet to extend the expiration date (that would be this one Tuesday at 12:01 p.m.) m)

Upon completion of the formal renewal, Ontario will remain until at least 9 February in its strictest form of lockdown to date

“Today the government extended the declared provincial emergency by another 14 days Emergency Management and Disaster Prevention Act (EMCPA) declared on January 9, 2021 now expires on 9 February 2021, unless it is extended further, “reads a press release issued by the government on Monday

“All orders under the EMCPA, including O Reg 11/21 (stay-at-home order), O Reg 8/21 (enforcement of COVID-19 measures) and O Reg 13/21 (evictions from residential buildings) has also been expanded. Orders under the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA) are still in effect “

This means anyone caught violating the Stay At Home Ordinance can be fined and prosecuted under both the EMPCA and Reopening Ontario Acts

Indoor social gatherings are prohibited, outdoor gatherings are limited to five people, and residents are only allowed to leave their homes for essential reasons as per the stay at home order
