Derek Brunson has rejected competitors in the past and has fought in high profile middleweight bouts on Saturday he will be tasked with both when he takes on Kevin Holland at the main Fight Night event in Las Vegas
Catch UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Holland at 8 p.m. and 5 p.m. on TSN5 and TSN Direct

Brunson, the seventh-placed middleweight fighter in the promotion, enters the bout with a winning streak of three fights. In his last appearance last August, he presented up-and-coming Edmen Shahbazyan his first professional loss with a third-round TKO in the main event Fight Night

Previously, Brunson had captured Ian Heinisch’s winning streak with five fights and won a victory against the Canadian Elias Theodorou at an event in Ottawa in May 2019

Now in Holland, Brunson faces another young fighter looking to claim a victory over him in order to catapult himself into a championship bout. The 37-year-old is ready to take on the challenge again

“It’s a different guy, an up-and-coming man who wants to get on with bigger things and see himself on the cover,” Brunson told TSN. “So it’s my job to take him out.”

Three of Brunson’s five losses to the UFC have been from fighters who cost gold middleweight gold in Robert Whittaker, current champion Israel Adesanya and legend Anderson Silva He has a 12-5 record since joining the promotion

While 2020 was tough for most, Holland bucked that trend by winning all five of their fights in the calendar year while receiving three bonuses for the night’s performance

Last year in December at UFC 256 he won against Anthony Hernandez, Joaquin Buckley, Darren Stewart, Charlie Ontiveros and most recently against Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza

Holland has already faced some of the toughest rivals in the UFC middleweight division and believes Brunson is not high on the list

“I think I’ve had tougher fights than Derek in the past, Jacare being one of them, just to mention at first sight,” Holland told TSN. “They know styles lead to fights So it’s about who goes well with whom in terms of style. Everyone has the feeling that Derek Brunson suits me well, then it will be the toughest fight so far until I get out there and prove the opposite ”

The tenth middleweight division has set an 8-2 record since joining

Gregor Gillespie and Brad Riddell were scheduled to meet in the co-main event, but the fight was canceled on Saturday due to COVID-19 protocols
