On Jan 7, the province expanded online learning for all students in Southern Ontario on Jan 25, however, some COVID-19 hotspots have been extended to February 10

The Toronto, Windsor, Hamilton, Peel, and York regions will not be returning to classroom learning next week

Meanwhile, seven school authorities in Northern Ontario were told that elementary school students could start studying again as early as January 11, but some decided to keep schools closed due to rising COVID-19 cases

The province said a decision on the remaining school boards in southern Ontario, including London’s two largest school boards, the Thames Valley District School Board and the London District Catholic School Board, would be made Wednesday

All elementary and secondary school students had not been in class since before Christmas, while the province was locked again

During this period, cases continued to increase after the holidays, prompting the province to introduce stricter lockdown rules

There has been a drop in new COVID-19 cases in London over the past week, but the levels are still well above last spring’s when students were also out of school

The Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health is expected to take local numbers into account when making a decision on Wednesday
