Grundman was the Canadiens GM from 1978 to 1983 and won a Stanley Cup with the team at the end of its four direct championships in 1979

Grundman took over the reins from Sam Pollock, General Manager of the Hall of Fame, and was at the forefront when the team designed the mainstays and future Hall of Famers for Guy Carbonneau and Chris Chelios

Grundmans Canadiens set a record of 232-100-68 during the regular season, playing the playoffs in each of their five seasons while winning four division titles
