Calgary Flames striker Sam Bennett, who recently found himself on trade rumors, will be a healthy scratch against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night

Head coach Geoff Ward confirmed Dominik Simon will move in for Bennett, adding that they are addressing the situation one day at a time

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reported earlier Thursday that there is “nothing at the top” when it comes to potential trades with Bennett

“This may fuel trade speculation, but sources say it has nothing to do with trading right now,” Dreger said of the scratch

Bennett, who has assisted nine games this season, did not attend Thursday’s Matchday Skate team meeting, but later hit the ice with the Flames taxi squad

During insider trading on Tuesday, Dreger said the Flames were in no rush to treat the 24-year-old center

“Trade speculation always buzzes, especially in Canada. But the Flames’ position on Sam Bennett is no different than it was a year ago: there is absolutely no rush to trade him – it has to be the right fit,” Dreger said of insider trading “It has to work best for the Flames or GM Brad Treliving is ready to stand up and use Bennett as a potentially powerful player for Calgary””

Bennett, who was voted fourth overall by Calgary in 2014, has spent his entire seven-year career with the Flames, scoring 63 goals and 66 assists in 373 games
