With the NHL season nearing (hopefully) a return, it was only a matter of time before the teams plunged back into the U.S. The still fertile free agent market is looking for bargains coming through The flat salary cap was created that forces many UFAs to take less than they are worth. One of the top scorers available found a new home Thursday night when right-winger Anthony Duclair signed a one-year deal for $ 1 million with the panthers

“Anthony is a dynamic and highly skilled player who is able to make a reliable offensive contribution to our team,” said Panthers GM Zito in a Panthers press release. “He has tremendous speed and scoring opportunity and has proven himself earned a chance to be named an NHL All-Star last season”We are excited to welcome Anthony and look forward to what he can add to our team”

In a normal financial landscape, Duclair would theoretically have had no problem securing double the AAV for at least one medium-term contract for its production in the 2019-20 period richest striker in the league – after finishing 48th last season Ouch, his 23 goals in 66 games was the most inconsistent of any player who spent the entire season with the Ottawa Senators and earned him a trip to the all-star game for the franchisee for inconsistency Duclair has always been a Bugaboo, and it was also last season when he scored 14 of his 23 goals – 61 percent – during a hot stretch of 17 games between November 19 and Dec Even so, any player who can score 14 goals in 17 games is obviously talented in the 5v5 win with career bests on Shots per 60, Shot Attempts per 60, Scoring Odds per 60, and Rebounds per 60 The breakout was legitimate Among the NHL strikers with 500 minutes or more last season, he ended up in the 83rd place Percentile of Shot Rate and Scoring Chance Duclair will never be confused with a top-flight defensive striker, but his offensive influence was strong enough that the low sens broke even last year in a 5v5 win with him on the ice last year -34 exceeded

Duclair has also harmed a team that is relatively devoid of perfectly suited linemates. His most common linemates in 5v5 were left winger Brady Tkachuk, a gun-generating machine, and Chris Tierney, a center with six calibers It’s not that Duclair had pure playmakers feeding him the biscuit all year round

This is where the Panthers’ signature becomes terribly intriguing for both sides. Also as a left-footed shot, Duclair has spent a lot of time on the right wing in his career, and we know the Panthers have an opening there after they beat Evgenii Dadonov (oddly enough against the Senators) in the free hand. This slot will have competition from newly acquired Patric Hornqvist and promising rookie Owen Tippett, but it would be fascinating to see what Duclair could achieve alongside two elite strikers who are both good puck distributors In the above sample of strikers who played 5v5 for more than 500 minutes, Huberdeau sat in the 95th Percentile of primary templates per 60, while Barkov was in the 83rd Percentile sat

In theory, Duclair will have his best chance yet in a 30-goal season if he can break that top line, and he must state that he signed a one-year deal at a price below his real market value, according to reports he turned it down also made an offer from the Senators of around $ 3 million per year When the two sides were unable to agree on an extension, Ottawa decided not to make him a qualified offer instead of initiating risk arbitration.Duclair bet on himself and lost Round 1 on the deal he got after making up his mind has to represent himself without an agent during the talks, he put himself in this position. If he can deliver another year of his career, the move will look great in hindsight

But if Duclair ends up on the second or lower line in Florida, that goal will prove difficult. Linemate quality is dropping quickly after the top trio of Panthers he’d consider someone like Alexander Wennberg to be his center, and it is possible that Duclair’s number would go back

So it’s going to be a boom-bust year for Duclair’s target amount – and for his next contract

Duclair is nowhere near real market value and turned down a deal from the Senators that is worth a lot more, however if he lands on the right line in Florida he could hit his first 30-goal season and a much bigger deal next year complete

‘King Henrik’ announced he will miss this season with a heart condition and while he hasn’t definitely ruled out a return, it’s hard to imagine he can get back to the best league in the world at 39

The Blues are allowed to top Steen’s salary cap by $ 575 million. You’ve been over the cap but may still have enough cash to pursue a goalscorer.
