EDMONTON – Alberta Prime Minister Jason Kenney says widespread rule violations have forced his government to bring back stricter public health restrictions and it would not lead to cases of COVID-19 -Variants flood the health system by the next month

Kenney acknowledged that decisions to shut down indoor dining, cut indoor fitness, and reduce retail capacity will meet resistance even within his own United Conservative Party and caucus

“But the government can’t ignore the science, we can’t turn down medical advice or ignore the numbers,” he said on Tuesday,

On the long Easter weekend there was an average of 1 in the province000 new COVID-19 cases per day 931 new infections were reported on Tuesday

About 43 percent of 10000 active cases in Alberta were more contagious and potentially dangerous variants

Kenney said Alberta was well on its way by the end of April 2000 new infections per day and 1To have 000 people hospitalized with COVID-19

“If everyone followed through on public health measures in place over the past few weeks, we would not be seeing the tremendous exponential growth we are currently experiencing””

Kenney said he does not want to judge and understand that people are tired for more than a year after the pandemic

But he’s heard of outbreaks resulting from people hopping around the table in restaurants and bars and not sticking to their household cohort as the rules dictate

“When there is a significant level of breach, the tools we have available are quite limited, and we are using some of those tools here today”

Restaurants, bars, lounges and cafés are close to the indoor service from Friday lunchtime However, roadside, take-away and terrace dining are permitted

Retail stores currently have 25 percent customer capacity, but this will be reduced to 15 percent starting Wednesday and low-intensity group fitness activities will be banned again

Kenney said the province will increase vaccinations and expand eligible age groups as more vaccine doses arrive. The province also plans to set up “rapid flow-through clinics” starting this week

Earlier Tuesday, the Mayor of Edson, western Alberta, complained about the lack of information health officials were providing about a variant outbreak at a large local employer

Kevin Zahara said he would like to know what the risk is to the general public, but he hasn’t heard from Alberta Health Services and has determined that the rumor mill is strong

PTW Energy Services confirmed three positive cases of the P 1 variant was first discovered in Brazil at his offices in Edson and two other communities in western Alberta: Hinton and Drayton Valley Chief Physician Dr Deena Hinshaw has said the number is likely to rise

“At the end of the day, it’s not about the company and not about what absolutely happened,” said Zahara

“It’s about what we can do to prevent it from spreading further into our community, and we don’t have the information to make informed decisions””

Hinshaw said Tuesday that the P 1 Cases related to this outbreak made up a “tiny fraction” of the cases reported over the weekend and any type of COVID-19 can cause serious illness

She said patient confidentiality had to be weighed against the need for transparency. In the PTW case, everyone who had close contact with infectious people was notified, she said

“We do not routinely disclose certain locations unless there is a general public risk that we did not believe existed in this instance”

Opposition NDP health critic David Shepherd said Kenney’s renewed health restrictions were the right call, but were again late despite clear evidence that the variants were at risk

Shepherd said Kenney should have responded to the variations sooner and have financial support ready for companies that have to close or scale back their operations again
