Police in Victoria say the wife’s husband – the children’s father – supports detectives, but it would be unfair to assume fault

A woman and her three young children were found dead in a house in northern Melbourne

Police in Victoria said the wife’s husband and father of the three children were helping with the investigation, but people should not assume fault on that basis because “it would be grossly unfair”

Officials visited the Tullamarine suburb home shortly after noon Thursday and found the bodies of a 42-year-old woman, her seven-year-old daughter, her five-year-old daughter and her three-year-old son

Victoria Police said there is no ongoing threat to the community and they are “not looking for another person at this point in relation to this investigation”

“It is very important that we do not speculate,” he told reporters on Thursday. “The circumstances of this event have yet to be determined”

When asked whether the 48-year-old father was a “suspect” in the case, the deputy commissioner said he was “a person of interest”

“We shouldn’t be drawing any conclusions about his guilt at this point,” he said. “Doing that would be grossly unfair”

When asked by reporters if it could be a “suicide”, Hill replied, “There are a number of possibilities, and that is one that could potentially be relevant to this particular event”

“We should not draw any conclusions that this man could be responsible for this crime,” he said, “We just need to understand the facts and unfortunately they are not known to us at the moment but they will be in the abundance of time””

One of the family’s neighbors, Marie Groves, told ABC that she knew the family and that their children attended one of the children’s birthday parties last year

Another neighbor, John Constantino, told ABC the mom was “one of the nicest people you would meet” “She was very popular here,” he said
