Former Melbourne headmistress Malka Leifer has been extradited from Israel on charges of sexual abuse in Australia

New Zealand authorities have confirmed that a woman who tested positive for COVID-19 in the community is likely to have a contract with another returned traveler on the same floor as her room in her quarantine hotel

The 56-year-old had recently returned from Europe and had been quarantined at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland He was in quarantine for 14 days and tested negative twice before breaking on Jan. Returned home January

New Zealand COVID-19 Response Secretary Chris Hipkins said the source was likely a fellow traveler at the hotel who “encouraged” the woman’s husband and hairdresser to test negative

Mr Hipkins said the woman was in a hotel room near another COVID-19 case on the same floor, public health officials are confident there is no missing link between the two cases

Over 100 of the 253 returning travelers who had left the Pullman Hotel in the infection window had been contacted by Monday morning

The New Zealand government said it contacted as many of the 28 companies the woman visited but could not reach all of them and asked them to publish the list of locations on Sunday

The case has sparked a rush for testing in the area, with long lines at COVID-19 test sites in northern New Zealand after the country’s first community case in two months

Here’s the schedule of who gets it first and when to expect the bump

“There’s a lot of testing going on in the community we’ve seen this before,” he said

“We want people to be tested, we want to make sure that the right people are being tested because that is how we will confirm that there is no community redirect

Dr Bloomfield said the woman’s use of the New Zealand contact tracing app enabled authorities to contact other people at risk

“Remember, this can be anyone at any time, and it is up to all of us to protect one another,” he told a media meeting

“Everyone in the team has to scan QR codes and activate Bluetooth on phones and in the app”

He added that they are working with the hotel to determine if the ventilation system is playing a role in the transmission
