UFC sensation Khamzat Chimaev has shocked the sport after apparently announcing his resignation due to ongoing problems related to Covid

Chimaev made history last year after fighting three times in less than two months, but the Russian-Swedish fighter appears to have hung his gloves

“I would like to thank everyone for their support on my way in this sport,” he wrote in Russian

“I think I’m done Yeah, I know I didn’t take the belt, but this isn’t the most important win in this life

“I want to say a big thank you to my team. I want to say a big thank you to the UFC”

The Russian-Swedish phenomenon, 9-0 in his professional career, was set to fight Leon Edwards in December before Chimaev announced he had Covid-19

Chimaev also posted the following on his Instagram story about 25 minutes ago, translated photo via Reddit courtesy of r / mma user u / thesalamandirk picTwittercom / swBAaI9AT3

It was a third time on the 13th Postponed March, although this was again delayed as Chimaev struggled with the virus – something that apparently still bothers him

However, UFC chief Dana White has come and said that Chimaev may have been emotional after struggling to train and that he has not stopped

“When he got [to Las Vegas] the doctors took care of him and treated him with prednisone, a nasty steroid,” White told MMA junkie

So he’s on prednisone and he’s supposed to take this thing and chill, relax and unwind. He went in today and exercised, felt like s *** and got super emotional and posted that

“He’s not supposed to train but you know this guy’s a savage He wants to fight like every fucking weekend and now he can’t even train so he just got emotional and posted that but he doesn’t give up”
