Hyundai Australia has more than 93000 cars recalled due to a manufacturing defect that could cause an engine compartment fire
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission released the recall notification for Hyundai Tucson with model years from 2015 to 2021 on Thursday
“Due to a manufacturing defect, an electronic control board in the ABS module (anti-lock braking system) is short-circuited when the components are exposed to moisture,” says product safety
There is a concern that the fault could cause a fire in the engine compartment even if the vehicle is turned off as the circuit is constantly powered
This can increase the risk of an accident, serious injury, or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and potential property damage
Car owners affected by the notice should park their cars in an open field and near combustible materials and structures
Hyundai Australia will contact customers directly, recommending that they contact an authorized Hyundai dealer to have a relay kit installed on the circuit board
